The key details: India Won World cup after a long time

India defeated South Africa by 7 runs in the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup, held in Barbados 

This was India's second T20 World Cup title, having previously won the inaugural tournament in 2007. 

India's victory came after they had lost the 2023 ODI World Cup final to Australia. 

Virat Kohli, who announced this was his last T20I for India, top-scored with 76 runs to anchor India's total of 176/7. 

Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya bowled superbly in the death overs to defend the total and restrict South Africa to 169/8. 

 Indian captain Rohit Sharma also announced his retirement from T20Is after the match, having led India to the 2024 title.
